BIO and HISTORY OF THE MICHAEL LATCHISON SINGING MINISTRY

The Michael Latchison Singing Ministry is the longest active community choir in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. The Ministry was founded  June of 1985 when the Lord spoke to our Founder; Michael Latchison to start a Singing Gospel Ministry while working for Beaumont High School.

Some of the ministry’s achievements include: First African American Choir to minister in song at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church. We have also had amazing opportunities to sing at Powell Symphony Hall celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Holiday along with hosting a “City Wide Gospel Fest” at Kiener Plaza in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The ministry has sung at St. Vincent Children’s Home, The Beauvais Manor Nursing Home and were requested to be the featured Gospel Artists for “Make Music St. Louis Day” held in Mid-Town, Central West End and The Grove areas.

The ministry has been awarded the, “Christian Service Award,” from the Missouri Progressive Missionary Baptist State Convention for our 30th year anniversary in 2016. In the same year we were featured on a billboard on Highway 70 in St. Louis, Mo in honor of our 30th anniversary. We were also awarded “The 2017 Music Ministry of the Year Award” presented by the Missouri Association of Black Ministers Incorporated. In addition, we have been given five Proclamations by the Mayors of the City of St. Louis and three Resolutions. We have been featured in movies and area newspapers such as the St. Louis Post Dispatch, St. Louis American and the gospel newspaper; Sparksman.

The Lord has blessed us to be benevolent by giving back to the communities in which we serve by feeding the homeless, donating monies to Epworth Children’s Home, donating Thanksgiving food baskets, caps and gloves to families at Annie Malone Children’s Home along with the Division of Family Services and Larry Rice Ministries. The ministry has also led many Christmas Toy Drives throughout our history together.

In 2018, we celebrated our 32nd anniversary in concert with national Gospel Recording Artist, Beverly Crawford at the Westside Missionary Baptist Church located in St. Louis, Missouri.
